High Staff to Child Ratio

We provide a Staff-to-Child ratio of at least 1:4 for our 2 year olds and aim to provide a ratio of 1:6 for our 3 and 4 year olds. Every child is given individual time with their key person or another staff member during the session.

Child’s Progress

We like to keep our parents up to date with their child’s progress whilst at Caterpillars. The children all have a learning journal, which is sent home at the end of every term for parents to add to should they wish to.

Each child has an individual development plan compiled by their key person from information given gathered from parents, carers, other providers and the children themselves. We offer informal meetings between parents and key persons each term and upon request.

Key Person

Each child has their own key person who will spend extra time helping them to settle in to the routine at Caterpillars and to feel safe and secure on separation from their main carer. We also allocate a 2nd person who is there in the absence of the main key person. Please note, key persons may change from term to term as their or your child’s sessions change.

Parents

Parents are welcome to visit the nursery school to meet the staff and see the Montessori method in action. We hold annual open days where staff demonstrate the Montessori apparatus to visitors and the children are able to show their parents around their nursery school.

Parents are given regular newsletters and are kept updated with information by email, text and our daily whiteboard. All families have a news book for parents and key persons to communicate in.

We welcome parents to come in to the setting to help out with projects, read stories or to observe.

Admissions

Children can commence at Caterpillars at 2 years of age.

We operate an inclusive approach at Caterpillars whereby all families and children are welcome at our nursery schools. We will discuss the individual needs of your child with you when you register your child. You and your child will then be invited for 2 pre-start visits before your child commences at Caterpillars to familiarise your child with their key person and nursery surroundings.
