Nutrition

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Guidelines for providing food to the children at Caterpillars.

Our menus

Parents can be assured that:

  • Our carefully prepared meals adhere to strict government guidelines for sugar and salt content, ensuring Caterpillars provides a healthy and nutritious meal plan for children.

  • Meals are prepared to meet the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

We use a specialist catering company, Zebedees, to provide lunch and afternoon tea at Caterpillars.

zebedees.co.uk supplies a hot lunch and cold tea daily to Caterpillars, with a menu rotating every three weeks.

Experienced chefs specially design Zebedees' carefully curated nursery food menus to appeal to young taste buds.

Zebedees menus go above and beyond current EYFS nutrition guidance, providing carefully balanced, freshly prepared meals that support children’s growth, development, and lifelong healthy eating habits. So, you can rest assured that your child will receive nutritionally balanced meals prepared to the highest food safety standards.

Research suggests the diets of children under 5 in the UK are often low in fibre and key vitamins and minerals, while being too high in sugar and salt. As a result, more than one in five UK children currently start school overweight or obese.

That’s why:

  • We do not add salt to any of our dishes.

  • We provide plain, full-fat yoghurts with no added sugar or sweeteners.

Nursery age is a key time when children establish their food preferences and eating habits, so we provide them with a good range of nutritional options.

Snacks

During the morning session, we offer a variety of food such as fresh fruit, raw vegetables, cheese, and crackers.

Milk

Our organic milk is supplied by the Milk Club who use local farms, reusable glass bottles and electric vehicles.  The milk is unhomogenised  – untouched by heavy processing, so it’s gentler on the gut and closer to how nature intended. The cream rises, and so do the benefits.

Allergies & Dietary Requirements

We cater for ALL dietary and allergy requirements.
